Testing Accommodations
Students with a current 504/IEP from their home school district are eligible for testing accommodations. Provide school with 504/
IEP. Consult with your guidance counselor.

Referrals
Guidance personnel will consult with and refer
student/parents to local health professionals at
the request of the family or school.

Archdiocese Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program (ADAPP)
Individual and small group sessions focused on the prevention of alcohol and drug use. Works in conjunction with parents and faculty to promote student success.

GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT

The Guidance Department is comprised of two full-time school
counselors, providing both academic and personal counseling.
Students are advised on numerous topics including transitional
concerns, time management, study skills, college and career
exploration. Additionally there is a part-time ADAPP counselor
who counsels students regarding personal matters.

9th Grade

	Get to know your school counselor, faculty and other school resources.
	Take classes designed to promote academic achievement.
	Become involved in school or community based extracurricular activities that interest you and/or enable you to explore career interests.

 

10th Grade

	Career exploration.
	Review your transcript and 4 year plan.
	Prepare for and take the PSAT in October.
	Consult with your counselor if you are interested in volunteer opportunities.

 

11th Grade

	Prepare for and take the PSAT (The National Merit Scholarship program requires a Junior Year score).
	Review school transcript.
	Meet with your counselor to discuss post-secondary plans.
	Register for ACT, SAT and SAT Subject Tests in the Spring.
	File NCAA paperwork.
	Participate in college visits.
	Create college essay and resume.

12th Grade

	Review graduation status.
	Attend SHHS college fair.
	Obtain college applications.
	Begin scholarship searches.
	Register for ACT, SAT, and Sat Subject Test in the Fall.
	Request teacher recommendations.
	Complete college essay and resume.
	Listen for scholarship announcements.
	Complete and file financial aid forms in January.
	Finalize your college choice.
	Review college admission decisions.
